What is the “Refueling / charging sections” tool and how to use it

What do you want to find out?

Category:

The “Refueling / charging sections” tool can be accessed from the Finalization of trip menu by clicking on the Useful tools button in the top right corner and selecting and clicking on the “Refueling / Charging sections” menu point from the drop-down options.

In the window that opens, you can see the differences between the current monthly refueling / charging sections and the mileage of monthly trips.

A refueling / charging section will consist of the days between two refuelings / chargings. By clicking on each refueling / charging section the program will jump to the start date of that given refueling / charging section.
Using this Refueling / charging section tab as a helping tool you can easily determine how many miles you have to approximately add or delete in each refueling / charging section to match your odometer readings between each refueling / charging.
When you see a + sign, that means that you have more miles in the given refueling / charging section.
When you see a – sign, that means you are missing miles in the given refueling / charging section.

The color of the refueling / charging section will help you indicate which section consists of a deficit or a surplus.
The software will be able to correct the section indicated by green coloring automatically as it more than likely caused by a minor mistake such as not recording your Odometer reading at the time of refueling, but later that day, from memory.
The section with the red coloring indicates that you have to manually adjust that section since the deficit or surplus is more than what would be a result of a minor error.

If you look at the picture above you can see that the second refueling / charging section is colored red and the number -17.1 is there. This means that you are missing 17.1 miles from the second charging section.
The -17.1 here shows you that you have to add some trips to the refueling / charging section between the 4th and the 12th of August to match up with the odometer reading that you indicated for this refueling / charging section.

Important: The refueling / charging section window is a pop-up window. You can drag and move it around your screen and “close it up” by clicking on the upward arrow next to the close button in the top right corner of this window.
When you close this window up, you will only see the heading of the pop-up window, it won’t disappear completely.
When you start correcting a refueling / charging section you can move this window with you, even through menu points. Resize it, “close it up” and open it down again when you need to check how a specific refueling / charging section changed.
This functionality will become important later when we talk about the most common use case scenarios, where you need to navigate between menus and you would want the Refueling /charging section tool to move with you so you can double-check what changes your modifications caused.

The most common use case scenarios are the following:

I. Most of your refueling / charging sections are green and just a few of them or just one of them is red, showing a SMALL deficit or surplus in miles

As shown in the picture below, in this case, you have to go back to the red refueling section (which is the refueling section between August 4 and August 12 in the example) by clicking on the line that connects the two refueling sections together in the Refueling / charging section tool and add in a few miles until the said section turns green, same as the others.

The best practice here, as you probably would not need to use the AdWise feature to fill in the gaps in your mileage log, is to stay in the Finalization of trips menu.
Click on the red-colored refueling section and add 1 or 2 short trips between your already recorded, fixed trips. This can be a short grocery shop trip, a stop at a coffee shop, etc.
Tip: You can search by missing miles in the Finalization of trips menu. Let’s say, sticking with this example, you are missing 17.1 miles, you can type in 5 mi in the partner search option, and it will give you your Partners that approximately match the desired miles.

You can read more about the ways of adding new occasional trips to your mileage log here.

After adding a few trips to the refueling section check the Refueling / charging sections tools. As soon as the red section turns green you can click on the “Monthly distance correction” button as the software will be able to correct the remaining distance discrepancies automatically.

If the distance correction is successful you can go ahead and print out your mileage log.

II. Most of your refueling / charging sections are green and just a few of them or just one of them is red, showing a SIGNIFICANT deficit or surplus in miles

In this case, there are two common scenarios:

The first scenario is if you incorrectly recorded your Odometer Reading either at the beginning or at the end of the refueling section. Review and correct the odometer readings if you notice a typo (e.g. one of your odometer readings might have an unnecessary 0 at the end).

The second scenario is if you simply have to start an AdWise process and let the AdWise technology fill in the gaps of your log with trips, using your existing partners, in the refueling sections that are missing miles.

If the AdWise cannot fill in the gaps for any reason and an error is found, we will let you know what the reason is behind the error and where you need to go to make the required changes. Click on the button at the bottom of the error message to navigate to the menu where you can fix the error.

For example, if you do not have any personal partners, you can click on the Add personal partners button in the error message to go to the Partners menu, where you can record at least one personal partner.

If you have corrected all the indicated errors, the Adwise feature will begin filling the gaps in your mileage log.

III. Most of your refueling / charging sections are red

First, you can try and start an AdWise process and let the AdWise technology fill in the gaps with trips in the refueling sections.

If AdWise cannot fill in the gaps for any reason and an error is found, we will let you know what the reason is behind the error and where you need to go to make the required changes.

You are also able to fill in your missing miles manually in the Fixed trips / Mobile App menu option. If you choose this option, make sure you check the Refueling / charging sections to make sure you are adding your trips to the right place, and that you are achieving your goal, making the charging sections green!

Previous According to the program, the end-of-day and the next days’ first trips do not match, even though the partners have the same name
